Rhonda Towns, who recently celebrated the national release of her debut country album entitled I WANNA BE LOVED BY YOU (Dawn Records), will share her love and personal sentiment in remembrance of the 9/11 victims and their families as a participant in the Freedom Walk festivities. Towns, who has been on an extensive tour to promote her national CD release, has been asked by local Wal-Mart representatives and the City of Flagstaff to participate in their tribute commemorating the September 11 attacks. "When Rhonda Towns first visited our store to celebrate her CD release, she enchanted all of us with her performance and her pleasant interaction with our customers. We are pleased Rhonda has accepted our invitation for a repeat performance at our store this weekend in conjunction with the Flagstaff Freedom Walk," said Aaron Lindsey, Store Manager, Wal-Mart Flagstaff, AZ. “I am pleased to be part of this event. It’s a day for all of us to remember that all human life is so very precious. When we look back at September 11, 2001, so many innocent lives perished that day. It saddens my heart but it opened my eyes to know that the Creator knows the beginning and ending of all things and no matter what we think or what our opinions are, the Creator is in control. I pray for all of those who survived this terrible tragedy and this is the very least I can do to show my support,” says Towns, a resident of Chandler, AZ. Freedom Walk is an annual event, held in various cities across the United States in memory of the 9/11 victims and their families with the hope that they will never be forgotten. The walk begins at 2:00 at Northern Arizona University Dome parking lot and will proceed down the Urban Trail to the Wal-Mart parking lot where their will be entertainment, food and fun. Towns launched Dawn Records in early 2005. Under her own independent label, Rhonda released I WANNA BE LOVED BY YOU (April, 2006) produced by the famed Harold Shedd, Norro Wilson and Jim Cotton [Alabama, Reba McEntire, Shania Twain and Kenny Chesney]. She has released two singles from the CD [“I Wanna Be Loved By You” and “Somethin’ Better"]; the corresponding video for her current single, “Somethin’ Better,” is being aired on television stations nationwide. Rhonda has made guest appearances on Today’s Country with Crook ‘n’ Chase and BET’s Live from L.A. She performed live at the First Annual Black Country Music Show in Atlanta, Georgia, at Country Thunder in Twin Lakes, WI, CMA Music Festival 2006 and headlined a show in Zurich, Switzerland at the 16th Annual International Country Music Festival, making her the first African-American Country music artist to perform in Europe. More recently, Rhonda performed the national anthem on closing day of the 2006 CMA Music Festival. She also performed her a cappella version of “The Star Spangled Banner” in front of more than 85,000 baseball fans at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals. Rhonda was also featured in the August issue of CMA Close-Up Magazine and on GAC Nights-Country Thunder.
